Where Young Scholars Begin

The Academic Pentathlon gives 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students their first experience with organized academic team competition. Through five subject areas, students develop research skills, test-taking strategies, and the confidence that comes from competing as part of a team.

Many of Texas's top Decathlon competitors began their journey in the Pentathlon, making it an important pipeline for developing future academic champions.

Region Competition

Regional Pentathlon competitions take place across Texas, with the Essay on March 31 and the Competition on April 10, 2027, serving as the qualifying rounds for the national competition. Regional coordinators organize competition details for their area.

National Competition

Top Pentathlon teams from each region advance to compete at the national Academic Pentathlon Championship, where Texas students compete against the best young academic competitors in the country.
